  • Says conflict paved way for his independence
  • Acknowledges failed peace efforts despite interventions
  • Stresses that true peace fosters development

Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has stated that his political rift with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ultimately granted him the freedom to govern without interference.

Fubara made this revelation while hosting the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev Henry Ndukauba, along with other bishops, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

He acknowledged Ndukauba’s attempts to mediate in the dispute between him and Wike, noting that despite interventions from President Bola Tinubu and other political figures, the crisis persisted.

“God has a unique way of handling situations. Perhaps if peace had been achieved earlier, I wouldn’t be enjoying the liberty I have today,” Fubara remarked.

Expressing gratitude, he recalled how Ndukauba made numerous calls and sought meetings to resolve the conflict, but his efforts yielded no breakthrough.

“I appreciate his attempts, even though they didn’t bring the expected outcome. Sometimes, God allows turbulence to pave the way for peace,” he said.

Fubara, however, emphasized that while challenges may shape outcomes, genuine peace remains essential for progress, both within and outside the government, as it fosters development.
