Port Harcourt, Rivers State — Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally received his membership card from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his high-profile defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The card was presented to him by Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the Rivers APC.
Fubara’s move to the ruling party caps weeks of political realignment in the oil-rich state, which saw 16–17 state lawmakers, including the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, defect to the APC earlier this month.
The PDP has criticised the defection, describing it as a “self-inflicted injury” and expressing disappointment at the loss of one of its high-profile members.
