The Rivers State Government has firmly denied reports that an impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been formally served on him.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, the governor’s Special Adviser, Darlington Orji, said no impeachment proceedings from the Rivers State House of Assembly had been delivered to Fubara as at the time of his comments.
Orji said the governor only learned of the alleged impeachment move through print and electronic media reports, stressing that no official communication had reached him. He explained that the House had earlier announced a recess, with plans to reconvene around January 28, 2026, but later held an emergency sitting outside the agreed schedule.
According to Orji, Governor Fubara was not in the state at the time the lawmakers convened, rejecting claims that he deliberately avoided the Assembly or fled to evade impeachment proceedings. He maintained that the emergency sitting did not align with the Assembly’s previously announced timetable.
Orji further insisted that the governor has nothing to hide and is unafraid of any lawful process, describing reports that an impeachment notice had been served as inaccurate and misleading.
“The governor is not afraid of service because there is nothing to hide,” Orji said. “As of this moment, no impeachment proceedings have been served on His Excellency.”
