Port Harcourt – The Government of Rivers State, through the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, has issued a directive to all 23 Local Government Councils to submit reports on their activities.
In a letter dated March 24, 2025, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Dame Dr. Itong Awani, all Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) were instructed to submit their reports in compliance with the directive from the Sole Administrator of Rivers State. The reports are expected to be submitted to the Ministry on or before Wednesday, March 26, 2025, for onward transmission to the Sole Administrator’s office at Government House, Port Harcourt.
The submission must follow a specified template, which includes an introduction, the functions of the council, staff strength categorized by cadre, sources of revenue generation, and a review of ongoing and completed projects over the past two years. Additionally, councils must highlight their achievements, challenges, and recommendations, concluding the report with a summary.
The directive has been described as urgent, with the Permanent Secretary emphasizing adherence to the submission deadline to facilitate necessary government action. This move is expected to enhance accountability and transparency in local governance across Rivers State.
Further developments on the compliance of councils with this directive will be closely monitored.
