Robert Lewandowski Joins Chicago Fire in MLS Move

Robert Lewandowski has completed a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) after agreeing to join Chicago Fire on a two-year contract. The club confirmed the signing on Monday, with the deal subject to the completion of his visa and international transfer certificate.

The arrival of the former Barcelona striker is a major boost for Chicago Fire, who currently sit third in the MLS Eastern Conference with 26 points from 14 matches. The club has also strengthened its long-term plans with a new training centre and the ongoing construction of McDonald’s Park, a football-specific stadium scheduled to open in 2028.

The Robert Lewandowski MLS move could see the Polish star make his debut against Vancouver on 16 July. The veteran forward, who turns 38 on 21 August, leaves Barcelona after an impressive four-year spell in which he won three La Liga titles, including this season’s championship, and one Copa del Rey trophy. He scored 119 goals in 192 appearances for the Spanish giants.

Lewandowski received an emotional farewell at Camp Nou on 17 May after Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Real Betis, with teammates lifting him into the air before applauding him as he left the pitch.

Before joining Barcelona in a $52 million transfer in 2022, Lewandowski enjoyed a remarkable career in Germany, scoring 312 goals in 384 Bundesliga matches for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, while winning 10 Bundesliga titles.

The Robert Lewandowski MLS move also follows an outstanding international career. Poland’s all-time leading scorer has made a record 167 appearances for his country and scored 89 goals. His contract with Chicago Fire runs through the 2027-28 season, and he will occupy one of the club’s designated player spots. Fire coach Gregg Berhalter described Lewandowski as a champion whose arrival reflects the club’s ambition to compete for major honours.
