Played bit-part role this season, scored against Villarreal
Robert Lewandowski will miss FC Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semifinal clash against Atletico Madrid due to a fractured left eye socket, the club confirmed on Sunday.
The 37-year-old striker sustained the injury during Barcelona’s recent La Liga match against Villarreal CF. Tests revealed the fracture, ruling him out of the semifinal encounter.
Barcelona, the defending Copa del Rey champions, suffered a 4-0 defeat in the first leg against Diego Simeone’s side earlier in February. Lewandowski, often used as a substitute this season behind Ferran Torres, came off the bench against Villarreal to score the fourth goal in a 4-1 win.
