Rohan Bopanna, alongside Chinese partner Zhang Shuai, has made an impressive run in the Australian Open mixed doubles event, advancing to the quarterfinals with a walkover in their second-round match. Originally slated to compete against fourth seeds Taylor Townsend and Hugo Nys, the Indo-Chinese duo moved to the next stage without stepping on the court. Their next challenge will be against the winners of the match between Timea Babos and Marcelo Arevalo, and Olivia Gadecki and John Peers.
This success follows their solid 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kristina Mladenovic and Ivan Dodic in the opening round. However, in the men’s doubles, Bopanna and his new Colombian partner Nicolas Barrientos were eliminated in the first round by the Spanish duo of Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar.
Bopanna, who made history by becoming the oldest man in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam title at the 2024 Australian Open with Matthew Ebden, continues to showcase his prowess on the tennis court.
