President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia would aim to double trade with Africa over the next five year.
The Russian President disclosed that Russia currently export $25 billion worth of food to Africa which is more than what the country export in arms, at $15 billion. He added that Russia aim to double this trade for the next four to five years.
Putin at the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Wednesday told African leaders that there are very many potential partners with good prospects in Africa.
“African countries are attracting ever more attention from Russian businesses”.
He highlighted numbers of major Russian companies that were already working on Africa continent.
Dozens of African leaders are in Sochi for the first Russia-Africa Summit, as Moscow seeks greater influence on a continent where the West and China have a firm foothold.
The two-day event will see more than 3,000 delegates prepare deals and discussion on nuclear technology and mineral extraction.
