Ryan Reynolds has been working on his third Deadpool film for several years, and it will be the character’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shawn Levy (Free Guy, The Adam Project) will direct Deadpool 3 and will reintroduce Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Maximum Effort will co-produce the film with Marvel Studios, marking the first time the studio has collaborated with another production company on an MCU film. Both Jackman and Reynolds have been teasing the film for months, even referring to it as the Wolverine and Deadpool movie.
Now, one of the actors has revealed that, while the film will be difficult to make, it will most likely be enjoyable. Reynolds explained why in a recent interview with The Wrap (via Yahoo!).
“I believe it is a tightrope walk. Most of these films are always a tightrope walk of tone, but in this case, you have a collision of two pretty iconic characters from the Marvel Ancillary Universe [laughs] — we’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now.”
Reynolds informed the trade. “It’s really about finding a way to serve both of these characters in a way that feels extraordinarily authentic to each of them, and I think these two wrongs will actually make a pretty great right.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quatumania will be the next Marvel Studios film to be released. Empire Magazine recently spoke with director Peyton Reed about how the stakes have risen in the lead up to Quantumania. “People thought, Oh, these are fun little palate cleansers after a massive Avengers movie,” Reed told the publication. “‘I don’t want to be the palate cleanser anymore,’ I said for the third one. I want to star in the big Avengers film.'”
“I grew up a huge Marvel comics fan, and there are a few all-time villains in the Marvel comics universe,” Reed continued. “Loki, of course. Fantastic Four’s Doctor Doom. Kang the Conqueror, too. In conversations with Kevin Feige and Marvel, it was mentioned that I wanted to pit Ant-Man and Wasp against a truly formidable villain in this film, so we went with Kang the Conqueror.”
“Kang has time control in the comics, as he is a time traveler. In this film, his situation is slightly different, which I won’t spoil for you, but he’s someone who, [while] we live very linear lives, from childhood to death, Kang doesn’t exist in that way “The director laughed. “It struck me as interesting to pit the tiniest Avengers — perhaps the least powerful Avengers in some people’s minds — against the most powerful force in the multiverse.”
The following is how the studio describes the film: “Super-hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp in the film, which officially kicks off phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hope’s parents, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), join them in exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures, and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Kang, played by Jonathan Majors, joins the adventure.”
The film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released in theaters on February 17th, 2023!
