For the first time in history, Saudi Arabia has experienced snowfall, leaving netizens worldwide amazed. Photos of snow-covered deserts and mountains in Saudi’s Al-Jawf region are circulating on social media, showcasing an icy landscape where scorching sands once ruled.
The rare snowfall followed heavy rain and hail, blanketing hilly regions in snow and creating a winter wonderland that’s surprising even locals. This unusual weather has sparked conversations about climate change, as people marvel at the transformation in one of the hottest regions on Earth.
According to Saudi Arabia’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the snowfall was triggered by a rare low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea. This system brought moisture-laden air that, when mixed with the intense desert warmth, led to thunderstorms, hail, and ultimately, snow.
The Saudi Press Agency reported that the rains and snowfall have rejuvenated rivers and waterfalls, creating bursts of wildflowers across the landscape. The unexpected snowfall has not only transformed the topography but has captured global attention, bringing new life to Saudi Arabia’s typically dry terrain.
