The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old scavenger, Dauda Sa’idu, for allegedly vandalizing graves and stealing iron rods for sale. According to a press release from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakili, Sa’idu was arrested on September 20, 2024, in Yelwa, facing charges of trespassing, vandalism, and theft.

The report states that Sa’idu unlawfully entered a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area during daylight hours, causing damage to multiple graves and removing iron rods. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing various iron rods and selling them to scrap metal buyers in separate transactions, generating amounts of N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500, respectively.

Furthermore, Sa’idu admitted that he used the proceeds to purchase an undisclosed quantity of Indian hemp and food items for personal use. Police Commissioner Auwal Musa Muhammad has directed that Sa’idu be prosecuted upon completion of the investigation.
