Yesterday, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun declared that his administration would combat kidnappers who were enticing victims onto the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, particularly on the Ogun sector of the busiest road in the nation.
Abiodun also revealed that a combined security team had been established by the state and Oyo State to bolster security along the highway.
The governor made this statement when hosting the Leadership Newspapers management in his office.
“We established a cooperative security team with the Oyo State Government because we discovered that the most of these incidents are exactly at the border between us and Oyo State,” he said. They utilize the space as a blind spot.
There are currently at least 30 patrol teams on that section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, according to my memory. These squads are made up of military, police officers, DSS agents, Civil Defense personnel, and vigilantes.
Nothing could be more dreadful as we get closer to the holiday season than for individuals to travel in fear of being kidnapped.
We also went ahead and cleaned both sides of the road because of the element of surprise that they introduce when they simply spring out of the bushes, abduct, and flee. As a result, we asked our contractors to remove 50 meters on each side so it would be more difficult for them to hide in the bushes.
“We are doing more than just sending out security teams. To cover that road, drones are being used. These drones will enable us to observe precisely what is occurring there even before any events occur.
