Five individuals were detained by security personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, and Police Force during raids on terrorist hideouts in Kaduna and Kano, respectively.

This was said in a statement released by Dr. Peter Afunanya, the DSS’s public relations officer, on Tuesday in Abuja.

He claimed that in the wee hours of Monday, raids were conducted simultaneously on the hideouts in the two states.

He claimed that the terrorists used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the battling forces during the raid in Kaduna State.

He claimed that one of the terrorists who was wearing a suicide vest detonated himself as three suspects were being detained.

After Police EOD had defused more IEDs, Afunanya reported that goods including two suicide vests, an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, and a laptop had been found during a check of the group’s lodging.

“In Kano State, two suspects were detained, and a weapon, 11 cell phones, two hand grenades, and one fully charged AK-47 magazine were among the goods found.

Two empty AK-47 magazines, a Peugeot 307 automobile, and an ID card belonged to a suspect who escaped are among the additional items found, the official reported.

Afunanya claimed that earlier intelligence had shown that high-profile terrorist targets were reassembling in the North West to commit heinous crimes there.

He claimed that because of the ongoing military operations in the North East, the insurgents were forced to flee to the North West and Central zones, where they were setting up active cells.

“The Service commends the Nigerian Police and Military for their tenacity and support, which contributed to the operation’s success. Without a doubt, persistent interagency collaboration is a game-changer for counter-threat operations.

Additionally, the Service wants to make it very clear that it will continue to work with sister agencies to purge the country of criminal elements, especially during this moment of transition and even after.

“This is especially true because some people are trying to sabotage the process. But the Service will fight back and make sure the event runs smoothly,” he continued.
