Tunji Wusu –
A senator from Nigeria should receive more than N2 million for vacation time, according to David Aderinokun, the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate in the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
On Tuesday, Aderinokun made this claim in a post made with his verified X handle.
The $2 million that was provided to senators, he said, “isn’t a huge thing. For a senator, it is even too small. What can a family man buy with $2,000 worth of Naira? Why are we making such a big deal about it.
“However, they shouldn’t have made it widely known. Making it public seems a little uncaring toward Nigerians’ situation, he continued.
Recall that Senate President Godwill Akpabio informed the senators that the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Magaji Tambuwal, had wired money into each of their individual bank accounts so that they could take their annual vacation during a special plenary session of the screening and confirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees.
Akpabio had previously stated, “A token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly in order to enable us all to enjoy our holidays…,”
The senators interrupted the Senate President’s speech, obviously not happy with Akpabio’s disclosure to the public.
Akpabio rescinded the statement, though, and paused before restating the facts.
Akpabio offered an alternative to soothe frayed nerves: “In order to enjoy your holidays, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to help you to go on a safe journey and return.”
