Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Sparks Uproar Over Seat Reassignment in Senate Plenary
The Senate chamber witnessed a heated exchange on Thursday as Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, halted plenary proceedings over the unauthorized relocation of her seat.
Midway into the session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief Whip Senator Mohammed Ali Monguno raised a point of order, drawing attention to what he described as an “improper seating arrangement” concerning Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. However, before Monguno could fully state his case, the female lawmaker erupted in protest, leading to a shouting match and prompting security personnel to step in.
Despite Akpabio’s attempts to de-escalate tensions, Akpoti-Uduaghan stood her ground, demanding an explanation for the alteration of her seat without prior notice. The situation was eventually brought under control after the public address system was cut off, restoring order to the session.
