– Motion raised by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai highlights severe traveler hardships and dangers.
– Despite federal repairs over 10 years, the road remains in disrepair.
– Umahi is to explain ongoing neglect before the Committee on Works, with a report due in three weeks.

The Senate has summoned Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to address concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road. This decision, made on October 2, followed a motion of urgent public importance raised by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo North), who emphasized the road’s critical role as a link between the South and North of Nigeria.

Senator Abdulfatai described the road’s poor condition, noting that it has caused significant hardship for travelers, leading to accidents and frequent stranding. Despite federal government repairs initiated over a decade ago, the road remains in disrepair, contributing to traffic jams and posing risks to commuters, especially those in large vehicles.

The Senate has tasked Umahi with appearing before the Committee on Works to explain the ongoing neglect, despite the rehabilitation contract being awarded years ago. The motion received unanimous support, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the committee to report back within three weeks.
