Senator Mpigi Barinada, who represented Rivers South East Senatorial District in the Senate, has died.

The news of his passing broke on Thursday after the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Akin Alabi, confirmed the development in a tribute posted on his official X handle.

Alabi expressed shock and grief over the loss, writing, “Good night my dear friend. Rest in Peace, Senator Mpigi Barinada. Sen Mpigi represented Rivers South East in the Senate.”

Until his death, Mpigi served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, where he oversaw legislative interventions and policy oversight on federal infrastructure projects. He was widely regarded as a key voice from Rivers State in national legislative affairs.

The late lawmaker represented the Rivers South East Senatorial District, a critical political bloc in Rivers State, and played an active role in debates and committee engagements in the Red Chamber.

As of press time, details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain unclear. Neither family members nor official government sources have issued a formal statement explaining the cause of death.

Tributes are expected to pour in from political associates, constituents, and stakeholders across Rivers State and beyond as the news continues to reverberate within Nigeria’s political space.
