On Tuesday, Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, published her first picture book.
The 40-page book is called “The Adventures of Qai Qai” and was written by Macmillan Publishers. It is about “a small girl who learns to believe in herself with the help of her doll and best friend, Qai Qai.”
The 41-year-old American tennis great, who lost to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open, may have played her final competitive match.
Serena responded to a question about maybe reconsidering her decision to leave the sport after the match with, “I don’t think so, but you never know.” She had declared in August that she was “developing away” from focus on expanding her family and her business interests instead of tennis.
Serena got as close as she has ever been to declaring her own career is over when she welcomed the Swiss master into “the retirement club” following the announcement of Roger Federer’s decision to retire from tennis after a 24-year career.
Williams posted on Instagram, saying, “I commend you and look forward to all that you do in the future. Greetings from the retirement club. I also want to thank you for being Roger Federer.
