Enock Ifeoluw Ogungbamigbe was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today. He is known as a prolific visa scammer who specializes in using phony job and visa offers to deceive desperate Nigerians seeking to immigrate to Canada for work or higher education.
The 32-year-old, who runs a spa in the Abuja suburb of Mpape, was led to the Transcorp Hilton by EFCC agents, who then took him into custody.
The agents asked him to come over to the upscale hotel for the business transaction without understanding that it was a setup, posing as genuine Canadian visa applicants in desperate need to acquire their travel documents and relocate over to that country.
The victim who lost N5 million to the suspect as processing costs for a visa to Canada filed a petition with the EFCC, according to spokesman Wilson Uwujaren, and that led to the suspect’s detention.
The victim had also been offered a job by the suspect once she arrived in Canada. However, he simply gave the victims bogus visas, and all attempts to get the money back were in vain.
As soon as the inquiry is over, the suspect would be charged in court.
