The Italian football federation confirmed on Monday that Genoa has lost a point in Serie B for failing to pay taxes for September and October of last year.
The nine-time Italian champion, who now sits in second place in Serie B with 42 points, 12 points behind leaders Frosinone in the fight for promotion, said in a statement that the FIGC had accepted a plea deal from him.
Andres Blazquez Ceballos, the CEO of Genoa, was penalized with a 6,000 euro punishment.
Genoa was spared from a harsher penalty by the FIGC because the club had already paid a portion of the debt and had provided proof that, as of the final deadline on December 16, it had the money to cover the remaining balance.
