Shehu Sani, the immediate past Senator from Kaduna Central, has enjoined the North to forget about retaining the Presidency in 2023.
He warned that the North would be laying landmines that would destroy Nigeria by insisting on producing President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.
Speaking in Minna, Niger State over the weekend, the former lawmaker stressed that the North has had it fair share under Buhari.
Stressing that it was “too premature” to start talking about Buhari’s successor, Sani reminded those making such calls that what keeps a nation together is equity and fairness.
He said: “My own position is that the North has had its own fair share of leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Anybody who is saying power should remain in the North even after Buhari is simply laying a landmine for the destruction of our country.
“We should understand that it is not simply about winning election that keeps a nation, it is about being able to stabilise and balance all the forces.”
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, had insisted that the North would retain power in 2023.
President General of the forum, Yerima Shettima had claimed that the Buhari administration has been hijacked by the South-West.
