– Ex-Senator calls for Wike-Fubara reconciliation to restore stability
– Warns political unrest needs a political fix, not force
– Appeals to Tinubu to mediate for lasting peace

Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has advocated for a political approach to end the turmoil.

In an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, Sani underscored the necessity of diplomacy over coercion, stressing that former Governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara are indispensable to stabilizing the state.

“Political conflicts demand political solutions,” Sani asserted. “You cannot sideline Wike or Fubara in any lasting resolution. Both must be involved within this six-month window to calm tensions, especially if the matter is before the Federal Executive Council.”

He urged President Tinubu to take the lead in brokering peace, emphasizing that Rivers’ stability should take precedence over political allegiances. “Whether Wike is central or not, the ultimate goal is peace in Rivers State,” he added.

The state of emergency signals a critical shift in Rivers’ political landscape, igniting concerns over governance and security in the months ahead.
