On Tuesday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made a splash when he jokingly brought up the drama between him and Senator Kashim Shettima, the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, referring to the latter as the chairman and the largest shareholder of his ice cream manufacturing company.

While speaking at the book launch for Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje at the Nigeria Air Force Conference Center in Abuja, Osinbajo dissed the outgoing governor.

Shettima attempted to minimize the vice president’s political significance in the North during his interview on “Politics Today,” a Channels Television program that aired on June 5. Shettima described the vice president as an ice cream vendor.

In the lead-up to the APC presidential primaries, the former governor, a dependable supporter, and current running mate of Bola Tinubu, had characterized Osinbajo as a fine man who ought to be hawking popcorn and ice cream.

Shettima claimed on the same broadcast that Senate President Ahmad Lawan had the demeanor of a tomato vendor and is incapable of taking on PDP nominee Atiku Abubakar.

Even though he apologized to all parties two days after the story went viral, Nigerians would always remember the event.
Therefore, it came as no surprise when the vice president brought up the subject once more after their second meeting.

“I welcome the vice presidential candidate who is running on the platform of the APC, Distinguished Senator Kashim Shettima, who is also the majority stakeholder and chairman of Yemi Osinbajo Ice Cream Company,” teased an ecstatic Osinbajo.

A blushing Shettima felt uncomfortably in his seat, observing from the sidelines as the audience roared heartily at the joke.

Instead of responding angrily to the vice president when he mounted the podium, a contrite Osinbajo recognized the presence of the distinguished visitors and called him a “very good man.”

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, a former vice president, Senator Kashim Shettima, an APC vice presidential candidate, and Babagana Zulum, Dr. Jonathan’s successor in Borno State, were among the dignitaries present.

Not many vice presidents and deputy governors were fortunate enough to retain a friendly relationship with their bosses, he said, adding that aside from him, Osinbajo and Jonathan had a wonderful relationship with the late Umar Musa Yar’Adua.
