Legendary Nigerian juju musician, Sir Shina Peters, has dismissed claims by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo that he chose to build a house with N20 million in 1990 while Zenith Bank founder, Jim Ovia, invested a similar amount to start a bank.

Ashimolowo, founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), made the comparison while preaching on “wealth and timing” at COZA 12DG. In the sermon, he urged congregants to delay gratification, arguing that Peters’ alleged decision to build a house left him with ageing property, while Ovia’s investment grew into a financial institution now valued in trillions of naira.

The remarks triggered backlash on social media, with several netizens accusing the cleric of belittling Peters’ career and legacy. Singer Daddy Showkey publicly condemned the comparison, describing it as unfair and disrespectful.

Reacting to the viral video via his Instagram story on Wednesday, Peters rejected the claim as false and derogatory. He thanked Daddy Showkey for drawing his attention to the sermon and clarifying his position.

Peters, who is also a pastor, said he would not pursue legal action against Ashimolowo, citing his commitment to Christian values and the body of Christ.

“Thanks to @daddyshowkey for speaking on this matter and bringing it to my attention,” Peters wrote. “I’m not one to judge people and their opinions of me, but as a man of God myself, and for the sake of the legacy of our Christ Jesus, I will not be taking legal actions nor will I speak ill against you, despite your false and derogatory statements.”

The music icon stressed that God has blessed him abundantly over the decades, adding that those close to him understand the depth of his success beyond public assumptions. He also acknowledged that Ashimolowo has equally been blessed by God.

“How we use our blessings to set good examples for people is what matters now,” Peters added, while praying for his fans across the world.
