Alhaji Wali Adamu, the acting Chairman of Shira Local Government Area in Bauchi State, has passed away at the age of [age if known]. He died on Sunday at the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area, following a brief illness.
Wali was appointed as the acting Chairman of Shira LGA on March 3, 2025, after the Shira Legislative Council removed the former Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his deputy, Hon. Usman Adamu. The two were dismissed due to allegations of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, dereliction of duty, and abuse of office.
Before becoming acting Chairman, Wali had served as the Councillor for Tumfafi Ward and had been the Leader of the Council. His death was confirmed in a statement issued by Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Bauchi State Governor.
Governor Bala Mohammed expressed heartfelt condolences to Wali’s family, the Katagum Emirate Council, and the people of Bauchi State, describing him as a committed public servant whose contributions to the development of Shira and the state would be remembered.
Governor Mohammed also offered prayers for Wali’s soul, asking Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus and provide strength to his family during this difficult time.
Wali’s passing comes just 13 days before the scheduled by-election on May 24, 2025, to elect a new chairman and deputy chairman for Shira LGA. The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has confirmed that it is fully prepared to conduct the election.
This follows the local government elections conducted in August 2024, where new chairmen and deputies were elected across all 20 LGAs in the state.
