Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in a dramatic political twist ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Arise TV, Governor Diri made the move alongside 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, marking one of the most significant defections in the state’s political history.

The defection comes less than 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, also crossed over to the APC, fueling speculation of a broader realignment across southern Nigeria.

Though official details remain under wraps, sources close to the development said Governor Diri and the lawmakers are preparing to formally announce their defection in the coming days.

In recent weeks, several federal and state lawmakers have switched allegiance to the APC, bolstering the party’s strength and reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape as the 2027 elections draw nearer.
