Popular gospel artist Sinach is facing a N5 billion lawsuit from music producer Michael Oluwole, known as Maye, over claims of copyright infringement regarding her 2016 hit song, Way Maker.
In the case filed under suit number FHC/L/CS/402/2024 at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Maye asserts that he is a co-author and co-owner of the track. He is seeking a court declaration affirming his ownership rights, along with general damages amounting to N5 billion for what he terms repeated violations of his intellectual property.
Sinach, however, has denied these allegations, maintaining that she is the sole creator of Way Maker. She also emphasized her global recognition in the gospel music scene prior to the release of the song.
The trial commenced on November 27, 2024, but has been adjourned to January 29 and 30, 2025, for further proceedings.
