The Nigerian musician Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, has received congratulations from the country’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after winning a Grammy.

Tems was recognized as a Grammy Award winner on Sunday for his collaboration with Drake on Future’s song “Wait for You” in the category of “Best Rap Melodic Performance.”

On Monday, the group tweeted its congratulations via its official account.

Congratulations Temilade Openiyi (@temsbaby) on your Grammy award! This is a first for a female Nigerian performer.

Tems received the honor for Best Melodic Rap Performance in recognition of her work on the popular song “Wait for U” with Future and Drake.

After Sade Adu won the Grammy in 1986, Tems is now the second female Nigerian and second Nigerian musician to do so in recent memory.

Burna Boy won the Grammy in 2021 while losing in the 2022 prize categories.
