The Sustainable National Party (SNP) says it plans to turn around Nigeria’s economy from oil based to productivity based if elected in the Feb. 16 Presidential Poll.
SNP Vice Presidential Candidate Mr Kingsley Nwagu stated this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.
Nwagu said the party’s aim is to build a society where every Nigerian would have a sense of belonging.
He said the party would channel the entrepreneurial prowess of Nigerian youths towards building a diversified and integrated economy.
“SNP is looking at Nigeria with a panoramic view, we want to manage Nigeria as an organisation, we need to account for every decision we make, for every penny that comes in and utilise our manpower.
“This will bring our economy back; we will also activate other sectors of the economy instead of depending on oil alone because our economy is not structured to meet the needs of our demography.
“What we intend to do as a party when voted in, is to structure our economy to meet the demographic needs of Nigerians.
“In the U.S., for example, they group their population in such a way that specific policies can be targeted at a specific group of the population like you have the baby boomers, millennial among others,’’ he said.
Nwagu said the situation is different in Nigeria because the economy is an oil based, so we want to change it to productivity-based economy.
He said the party would harness the benefit in agriculture, mining and other sectors growing them to ensure that they drive the economy so as to create wealth for Nigerians.
He said the party would rebuild the foundation of civil society to ensure defence and protection of strong ideals of democracy and to empower the vulnerable.
Nwagu said from what is on ground the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is prepared for the conduct of the forthcoming election but expressed reservation over the slow pace of distribution of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).
He urged INEC to use all the elements of communication to ensure that it reached out to people in the rural and urban areas so they can collect their PVCs.
He said the commission would have to deploy other means to make the distribution easier and faster adding that the extension of collection date is a good idea.
He advised INEC to remain an independent and unbiased body in order to ensure free, fair and credible election.
Nwagu advised fellow politicians to see election as a challenge where there must be winners and losers adding that whether they win or lose, they should accept the result in good faith.
“The fact that you lose an election does make you a loser, you can always contest next time, most importantly, eschew any form of violence and don’t incite people through speeches or body language that will create tension,”he said.
He said when there is free and credible election, the nation would be better for it adding that Nigeria should come first.
He encouraged politicians to seek redress in court and follow due process in case of rejection of election results and not to incite their supporters to cause violence.
The PREMIER reports that Nwagu is a management consultant with over 15 years experience.
He is also a market analyst and strategist who holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Administration and MBA from University of Cumbria in United Kingdom.
