By Babatunji Wusu| Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state of adequate security throughout their service year.
The governor gave the assurance during the swearing-in ceremony of 1,500 corps members participating in the 2026 Batch “B” Stream 1 Orientation Course at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Umbaukwu. The corps members comprise 636 males and 864 females.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Patrick Agha Mba, Soludo encouraged the corps members to take advantage of their stay in Anambra by learning from the resilience, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit for which the people of the state are known.
The governor urged them to participate actively in the state government’s skills acquisition programme, which is designed to equip young people with practical tools for self-reliance, innovation and wealth creation. He noted that the initiative aligns with efforts to empower youths and prepare them for future opportunities beyond their service year.
Earlier, the Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, said arrangements had been made to ensure corps members receive comprehensive skills acquisition programme training during the orientation camp in addition to regular camp activities.
“In a changing world, these skills will empower them (corps members) to become creators of opportunities and contributors to national development”, the state NYSC director emphasised.
Ojisua explained that the orientation course aims to instil discipline, patriotism, leadership, teamwork and selfless service among participants. She stressed that these values would help them carry out their responsibilities effectively during their one-year national service.
She advised the corps members to take every aspect of the orientation exercise seriously and make the most of the opportunities available to them. The NYSC coordinator also encouraged them to embrace unity, obey camp regulations and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the programme.
The skills acquisition programme, she added, will play a vital role in helping participants develop useful competencies that can support their future careers and contributions to national development.
