Governor Chukwuma Soludo has declared that he will hand over to a successor from Anambra Central Senatorial District at the end of his tenure, reaffirming the state’s zoning arrangement for the governorship seat.
Speaking at Abatete in Idemili North Local Government Area during a rally endorsing his re-election bid and welcoming former federal lawmaker Ifeanyi Ibezi back to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Soludo emphasized that zoning has become an entrenched political practice in the state.
The governor explained that the rotation of the governorship, which began with Anambra North and later shifted to Anambra South where he hails from, would naturally move to Anambra Central after his administration.
Welcoming Ibezi back into APGA, Soludo described the party as the political identity of Anambra and said its strength was unmatched. “Anambra is APGA, and APGA is synonymous with Anambra. The party has never been more united and stronger than it is today,” he declared.
He also expressed confidence in securing victory across the state’s 5,720 polling units and 326 political wards, while urging voters in Idemili North—known for its large voter population but poor turnout—to mobilize massively for the November 8 election.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria governor noted that his re-election campaign had transformed into a grassroots movement, with communities independently staging endorsement rallies across the state.
