Following surgery for a facial fracture, South Korean forward Son Heung-World min’s Cup participation may be in jeopardy, according to his club Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
Following an aerial collision with Chancel Mbemba, Son, 30, sustained an injury midway through the first half of Tottenham’s Champions League match at Olympique de Marseille.
Before being replaced and stumbling down the tunnel, he needed extensive treatment on the field.
Tottenham announced on their website that Heung-Min Son would have surgery to stabilize a fracture around his left eye.
Son will begin rehabilitation with our medical professionals after surgery, and we’ll keep our fans updated as more information becomes available.
Son, who has scored 35 goals in 104 appearances for his country, is a key component of South Korea’s chances at the World Cup, which kicks off in less than three weeks.
With Portugal, Ghana, and Uruguay, South Korea is in Group H.
