Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for insinuating a connection between recent protests and potential plans to overthrow the government. He described the government’s suggestion that citizens should defer their grievances until the next election in 2027 as hypocritical.

Sowore’s remarks come in response to the government’s handling of the #EndBadGovernance protests, during which demonstrators were advised to wait until 2027 to voice their concerns at the ballot box. Following these protests, several participants were arrested and charged with attempting to undermine the Tinubu administration.

Speaking at the recent #FearlessInOctober protest in Ikeja, Lagos State, Sowore emphatically denied any intention by the protesters to overthrow the government. He pointed out that when the All Progressives Congress (APC) was in opposition, they organized the Occupy Nigeria protests in 2012, well before the 2015 elections. “Did they wait for 2015 before they started Occupy Nigeria? They are just a bunch of hypocrites,” Sowore stated in an interview with FIJ, highlighting the double standards in the current government’s stance.
