Reports that the head of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, gave ₦850 million to 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi to run in that election have been refuted by Yunusa Tanko, top spokeswoman for the Obi-Datti presidential campaign team.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Tanko refuted Calistus Okafofor’s allegations that Obi had received funding to pursue the 2023 election.
A spokesman for the Obi-Datti campaign continued, saying that Obi contributed money to the party rather than getting it from it.
If Okafor was genuinely informed by the chairman that he donated Obi money to campaign in the previous election, he urged Okafor to provide proof.
Tanko claimed that he knew about the majority of the campaign’s costs and that, as far as he was aware, the party never sent Obi any cash directly to finance his nationwide campaign rallies.
Prior to the 2027 elections, the campaign spokesperson emphasized that some individuals were engaged in a smear campaign against Peter Obi and his followers.
“We are aware that people are already scheming for 2027 and it is unfortunate that certain individuals have chosen to divert attention from the high rate of insecurity and poverty that are currently threatening the very existence of our nation by constantly attacking the personality of Peter Obi.
“Those are the enemies of Nigeria and Nigerians but l know that God will disappoint them and rescue our country from their grips whether they believe it or not,” he stated
