Political leaders in Edo State have cautioned outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki against last-minute recruitments and contract awards, saying these actions could complicate the transition for Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Representatives from Edo’s three Senatorial Districts voiced their concerns through the Initiative for Democratic Advancement and Free Speech, stating that since Obaseki’s candidate Asue Ighodalo lost the recent governorship election, any post-September 21 actions would be disregarded by the incoming administration.

The leaders highlighted that Obaseki’s own transition from Adams Oshiomhole in 2016 was smooth, questioning why he would disrupt a similar handover to Okpebholo. They urged the Oba of Benin and other leaders to intervene, warning that consequences would follow if these alleged plans proceeded.

The group also called on anti-corruption bodies, the Inspector-General of Police, and security agencies to closely monitor activities in Edo State as the Obaseki administration concludes.
