State Police Bill Advances as Reps Withdraw Own Constitutional Amendment

State Police Bill moved a step closer to becoming law on Tuesday after the House of Representatives withdrew its own constitutional amendment and backed the Executive-sponsored proposal instead.

Lawmakers passed the State Police Bill through its first and second readings during plenary. They then referred it to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for detailed scrutiny. Consequently, the House’s earlier proposal was suspended as attention shifted to the Executive-backed version.

The decision signals lawmakers’ preference to advance a single proposal rather than pursue competing constitutional amendments. During the committee stage, members are expected to examine key provisions and recommend possible changes before the bill returns for further debate and voting.
