Former Governor of Imo State and one-time Senator for Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has firmly denied reports suggesting he plans to exit the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling the rumours as deliberate falsehoods orchestrated by political detractors.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha dismissed a recent report circulating on social media in which he was quoted as describing the APC as “a party desperate to hijack power.” The former governor said the alleged statement was fabricated by individuals “threatened by his enduring political relevance.”

“Almost eight years after leaving office as Executive Governor of Imo State, and several years after serving as Senator representing Imo West, those with a phobia of Rochas Okorocha still cannot sleep with their two eyes closed,” the statement read.

He questioned the logic behind the claim, pointing out that he remains a founding member of the APC a party he said he joined at great political risk when it had little support in the South-East.

“Okorocha took a political risk when major South-East leaders doubted the viability of the APC. He was ridiculed for his decision, yet he stayed committed,” Onwuemeodo noted.

The statement further recalled Okorocha’s leadership role as the pioneer Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, a position that underlines his longstanding commitment to the APC’s growth.

Addressing the controversial quote attributed to him, Okorocha asked rhetorically, “What power again? APC has been in government since 2015.” He emphasized that if he ever had concerns about the party, he would not air them via anonymous or poorly written posts online, but would address them openly and directly, consistent with his political approach.

The media aide described the rumours as part of a coordinated attempt to misrepresent Okorocha and undermine his political standing within the party and the nation.

“Okorocha remains a bonafide, committed member of the APC. He never made the statement being circulated by those envious of his political journey,” the statement concluded.
