Following President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the Students Loan Bill into law, Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, the director-general of the All Progressive Congress Professionals Council, has stated that the nation’s education sector is about to undergo a revolution as students will be able to access financial aid to further their education.
Bamigbade, who praised Tinubu for signing the Students Loan Bill into law, said the historic step marked a critical turning point in Nigerians’ quest for access to education.
In a statement he signed, the head of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Professional Council noted that the bill sponsored by Femi Gbajabiamila, the former speaker of the 9th House of Representatives and current president’s chief of staff, will give Nigerian students the chance to study at higher institutions with an interest-free loan that will be administered by the Federal Ministry of Education.
Bamigbade said this at the unveiling of the National Image tuition-free scholarship program in Abuja, which was organized in partnership with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON). He claimed that the president had done this by expanding the opportunities available to Nigerian youth.
He exhorted the youth to take advantage of the chance to create a better future for themselves, asserting that education is a legacy that enables people to access a variety of options to establish a meaningful career.
“The president has done things that appear to be impossible, things that have never been done in the history of this country,” he remarked, referring to his short tenure in office.
“Once again proving how much of a youth-friendly leader our president is, the interest-free loans for our children at higher institutions.
In keeping with the president’s objective, “we at National Image will continue to raise the bar for a higher enrollment of students in the universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.”
