Sudan has gone far in its technological race. For several decades, it has been advancing and improving on its technological innovations.
According to the African Country’s governing council, the invention of the first-ever satellite to carry out research in military, economic and space technology has been launched by China.
Another report by Khartoum says the satellite launched by China, will enhance the conduct of research for the military as well as civilian purposes.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Sudan’s sovereign council, announced the launch of the satellite on Tuesday, 5th of November, at a meeting of his top security officials held in the Country’s capital, Khartoum.
Another statement by the council explained further that, the satellite invention aims to develop research in space technology, acquire data as well as discover natural resources for the country’s military needs.
Xinhua, China’s state news agency, reported that the Sudan Remote Sensing Satellite (SRSS-1), was launched on Sunday from the northern Chinese province of Shanxi.
Spokesman of the ruling body, Mohamed al-Faki Suleiman explained that “in a few months the satellite would be monitored from Sudan”. He also said; “China launched the satellite as it is a partner in this project,”.
Sudan, which is battling an economic crisis, has been involved in a national space program for decades, covering activities such as remote sensing and geo-informatics.
In 2013, the then-Sudanese government led by President Omar al-Bashir established the Institute of Space Research and Aerospace (ISRA) as part of an overall plan to develop space technologies.
Al-Bashir was removed by the army in April following a nationwide protest movement against his 30-year rule. The protests were triggered by the economic crisis led by an acute shortage of foreign currency, Poverty and high inflation.
