Prior to the general election in 2023, Peter Obi’s supporters have been spotted giving food to Kwara State citizens, an act that could be interpreted as vote buying. Peter Obi is the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
According to the legislation, this crime is punishable by a fine of N500,000, a jail sentence, or both.
The party’s members were calling out the citizens’ names and handing them grains one after the other in a popular video that went viral on Twitter.
This allegedly occurred on Wednesday when party supporters visited the rural parts of Kwara State to mobilize the grassroots and raise awareness.
Poll-buying has also been a major issue in every election in Nigeria, and SaharaReporters claimed that the governorship vote in Ekiti State in 2022 was no exception. Intriguingly, it was raised a notch in the most recent governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.
