Panic swept through the Barki Abdullahi (BAD) community in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Saturday after suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked farmers on their farmlands, severing a woman’s hand and injuring several others.
Witnesses said the attackers ambushed unsuspecting farmers, unleashing machete blows that left multiple residents with deep wounds. The woman whose hand was cut off was rushed alongside other victims to a nearby clinic for emergency care.
A resident, Esla, who confirmed the assault, described the attack as “heartbreaking and unprovoked,” urging security agencies to immediately intervene and forestall further violence. He stressed that fear now grips the entire community as families worry about possible renewed attacks.
Esla appealed to both state and federal authorities to deploy security personnel to protect lives and property and restore calm to the troubled settlement.
As of press time, government and security agencies have not released an official statement regarding the incident.
