Babatunji Wusu –

The suspension of Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has been applauded by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF).
Recall that following the revelation of a leaked letter in which Edu gave Oluwatoyin Madein, the Accountant-General of the Federation, permission to move N585 million to a private account, she faced strong criticism.

Tinubu suspended her after receiving widespread criticism, ordered a thorough inquiry into the accusation, and requested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) look into all of her ministry’s financial dealings.

Yerima Shettima, the president of the AYCF, praised President Tinubu in a statement released on Monday for removing Edu from his cabinet while a full inquiry was conducted.

According to Shettima, Edu’s suspension demonstrates President Tinubu’s zero tolerance for corruption and will serve as a caution to other ministers to avoid actions that could damage the administration’s reputation.
He asked the President to keep a closer eye on the other cabinet members to make sure they aren’t involved in any actions that could jeopardize his administration.

He said: “The suspension of the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation is an indication that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has zero tolerance for any form of corruption.

“We as a youth body are hereby reiterating our support for Tinubu’s administration and urge him to throw more searchlight on other cabinet members to ensure that they do not engage in any activities that will undermine his administration.

“With the present development, our eyes will be on all the serving ministers with the view to exposing any of them with any corrupt tendencies.”
