Tajudeen Abbas, a legislator from Kaduna State’s Zaria Federal Constituency, has been chosen Speaker of the House of Representatives.

On Tuesday, June 13, he defeated Idris Wase and Aminu Jaji in a voice vote at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. Abbas received 352 votes out of the total 359 votes cast, while Jaji and Wase both received three votes.

Abbas, a member of the House since 2011, was subsequently sworn in as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, succeeding Femi Gbajabiamila, who is now President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff.
