Takeoff was a member of the hip-hop group Migos, and on Tuesday (Nov. 1), the label of the group turned to Instagram to express its sorrow at the rapper’s untimely passing.
We mourn the passing of our cherished brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, also known as Takeoff, with shattered hearts and great sadness, according to a statement on the record label’s social media accounts. “We are horrified that senseless violence and a stray bullet have taken another life from this earth.”
The touching letter urged supporters to “respect his family and friends as we all continue to mourn this huge loss” in its concluding line. Emoticons of a dove and a broken heart were used as the post’s caption.
At the age of 28, Takeoff was shot and died early on Tuesday (Nov. 1) in Houston, Texas. Around 2:35 a.m., the star was at a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston with his uncle Quavo when, according to investigators, shots were fired during an afterparty attended by about 40 people. The star was one third of the Migos trio along with his cousin Offset and uncle Quavo. Takeoff was declared dead at the spot, while two other victims, ages 23 and 24, were treated for non-life-threatening wounds at a hospital.
The incident is presently being investigated, and anyone who was present or has any information about it is encouraged to come forward to assist investigators crack the case, according to the Houston police chief, mayor, and homicide investigators, who attended a press conference earlier in the day.
