The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral social media message alleging the presence of 79 terrorists in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the imposition of a curfew. The police described the claims as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard them.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, the message, which was falsely attributed to ACP Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, is entirely fabricated. Intelligence gathered by the Force Intelligence teams and other security agencies found no evidence to support the claim that terrorists are hiding in the Lugbe area or its environs.
The police warned that the false message was likely created to incite panic, cause unnecessary tension, and destabilize the peace in the FCT. They advised Nigerians to rely only on official communication channels, including the Nigeria Police Force’s verified social media accounts (@PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram), as well as credible news sources.
Furthermore, the Force urged the public to verify any security-related information before sharing it to prevent the spread of misinformation. Citizens were reminded to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official emergency contact lines.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police Force assured residents of the FCT and the country at large that security agencies are working diligently to maintain peace and protect lives and property.
