Babatunji Wusu –
Last Thursday, Boko Haram terrorists ambushed troops along the Buratai-Buni Gari route, killing one Army Lieutenant and injuring four others, according to defence headquarters.
It further revealed that six terrorists were killed when troops chased them to their hideouts and engaged them in a gunfight.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this in a statement titled “Report On Ambush Along Road Buratai to Buni Gari in Operation Hadin Kai Operational Theatre,” which stated: “On April 5, 2024, at approximately 0935hrs, troops of Operation Hadin Kai encountered a terrorist ambush along the Buratai-Buni Gari road.
“Unfortunately, during the engagement, forces lost a lieutenant who was killed in combat, while four servicemen were wounded and are being treated.
“Troop reinforcements pursued the militants to their hiding in the Timbuktu Triangle and made contact. Troops killed six terrorists and recovered five AK 47 rifles and 103 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
“The surviving terrorists fled in chaos. However, troops are on the hunt for the remaining militants who left the fighting.”
