The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), located in Ile-Ife, is expected to successfully host the 2023 West African Universities Games (WAUG), according to the university’s administration.

This as said in a statement released on Thursday by Abiodun Olanrewaju, the institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO).

The 2023 WAUG is scheduled to start on December 16th.

“Sports contingents from universities in the West African sub-region will be involved, and athletes will compete for medals in a variety of sports, including tennis, table tennis, basketball, and athletics,” the speaker stated.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, will be the main guest of honor at the games’ opening and closing ceremonies, according to Olanrewaju.

“December 22nd is when the closing ceremony will take place,” he continued.

WAUG, an acronym for the ECOWAS Students Games, is a multi-sport competition involving student-athletes from universities in West Africa.
