The Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution encouraging Governor Alex Otti to request federal government assistance for the federal road that runs through Umuahia, Bende, Ohafia, and Arochukwu.

The House also emphasized the need for immediate action to repair the dilapidated colonial bridge over the Igu River in Ozu Abam, Arochukwu local government.

In order to prevent their complete collapse, it advised the governor to repair the Ozu Abam-Ndi Okereke-Arochukwu road and other connection roads in the Arochukwu constituency.

When Emmanuel Emeruwa, the speaker of the House, read the resolutions during plenary, he urged Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator who represents Abia North, to join Otti in asking for the Intervention.

The resolutions came when Uchenna Okoro, a member of the constituency and the majority leader of the House, moved to discuss an issue of urgent public interest.

In his speech to the House on the subject, Okoro lamented the terrible state of the bridge and the roads, saying that they had turned into year-round death traps.

Okoro remarked that resolving them will provide the people a sense of belonging and that the situation is having an impact on the rural constituency’s economy.
