The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has declared its decision to withdraw from the local government elections scheduled for November 2, 2024. This announcement emerged from a joint meeting of the party’s state executives and local government chairmen in Umuahia. The APC cited the absence of official communication from the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) as the primary reason for its non-participation. Engr. Sterling Uruakpa, the State Assistant Secretary and acting Publicity Secretary, emphasized the party’s reliance on credible, official channels for election information, rejecting social media as a legitimate source. The APC underscored the necessity for transparency and inclusiveness to ensure the election process’s credibility. Uruakpa asserted, “The All Progressives Congress is the ruling political party in Nigeria and the biggest party in Africa and will not tolerate any form of contempt or disrespect from ABSIEC.” He urged ABSIEC to adhere to due process and create a level playing field to earn the confidence of political entities and the electorate.
