THE DSS HAS CHARGED EMEFIELE IN COURT.

The DSS has charged suspended CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele with contempt of court.

This comes only hours after an Abuja High Court ordered the service to either charge or free the top banker within one week.

“Sequel to an Abuja High Court Order of today, 13th July, 2023, the DSS hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele has been charged to court in compliance with the Order,” said DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya in a statement Thursday night.

The public may recall that the Service asked for a Court Order to hold him in 2022 in connection with a criminal investigation.

Despite having a restraining order from an FCT High Court, the Service nonetheless detained him in June 2023 on suspicion of new criminal offenses, one of which served as the foundation for his current prosecution.

The Service guarantees the public that this subject will be handled with professionalism, justice, and fairness, as well as that it will carry out its duties in accordance with the law.
